PNG to DXF Converter

Turn a PNG into a cut-ready DXF in your browser. Trace the image to vectors, set the physical width, and download lines your cutting software can import.

Convert PNG images into DXF cut files for Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, laser cutters and CNC software. Upload a PNG, and ConvertSVG traces it into vector paths, then exports those paths as DXF polylines — all locally in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.

PNG stores pixels; DXF stores drawing geometry. Tracing bridges the two: logos, icons, monochrome artwork and line drawings come out as clean outlines ready to cut. For multi-color artwork, each color becomes its own DXF layer so you can map them to separate vinyl colors. Already have an SVG? Use the SVG to DXF converter instead. Working from a JPG? How to Convert

  1. Upload your PNG — Drag and drop a PNG onto the converter, or click to browse. Transparent backgrounds are handled cleanly.
  2. Pick a trace preset — Choose Logo / Color for flat artwork, Line art for sketches, or Photo for detailed images. Then set the physical output width and DXF units.
  3. Download your DXF — Click download and import the file into Cricut Design Space (Upload > Vector > Upload), Silhouette Studio, or your laser/CNC software.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Cricut Design Space open a DXF from a PNG?

Yes. Design Space imports DXF files as vector cut lines. Upload the DXF through Upload > Vector > Upload and it appears as Basic Cut lines that you can size and cut.

Does converting PNG to DXF lose the colors?

Each traced color is written to its own DXF layer, so the geometry keeps its color grouping. DXF itself stores layer colors rather than full-color fills, which is what cutting software expects.

What size will the DXF be?

The output width is set explicitly in millimeters or inches, and the height follows the image proportions. This makes the cut predictable instead of inheriting the source pixel dimensions.

Should I use PNG or JPG for tracing?

PNG is usually the better source because it is lossless and supports transparency. JPG compression adds noise around edges, which can create extra cut paths.

Is my PNG uploaded to a server?

No. Tracing and DXF generation run entirely in your browser. The image never leaves your device.
